After being contacted by Korten, a Cambridge based exhibition stand company, on behalf of their end-client, Edwards Lifesciences, the models were designed by our team using Solidworks software. The key requirement was to display 3 of Edwards Lifesciences’ heart valve replacement products which are used in keyhole surgery going in via the neck and groin areas.
Our team worked closely with the end client, to ensure the design for the heart, cavity, vascular system and overall anatomy were accurate and that the heart valve replacement products were correctly inserted. We also worked closely with Korten to make sure the models were mounted in the best possible way for display purposes.
Taking just 2 months from start to finish, the models were CNC machined in one piece of acrylic and hand polished to give them the high gloss ice effect finish.
They were machined from both sides to allow the installation of the heart and vascular system, which were grown separately on our Viper SLA machine and then sandblasted to give them a frosted finish.
The Ice Men were then lit with red LED spotlights, whilst the main body of the models were illuminated to make them really stand out from the crowd.
